DIMAPUR — In commemoration of World Pneumonia Day, the Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) campaign was launched in Mokokchung district on Monday.
Addressing the launching event held at the conference hall, office of the chief medical officer, Mokokchung, Dr. Kibangkumba, CMO, urged the participants to create awareness and to address pneumonia in children under five years by ensuring early detection and intervention.
The CMO also emphasised on the importance of making the church as another platform to reach out to the general community, a DIPR report stated.
Pneumonia is a treatable and preventable disease, but it is also the world’s largest infectious killer of children, Kibangkumba said.
Resource person, Dr. Imlisenba, pediatrician at IMDH, in his power point presentation, highlighted the objectives of the SAANS initiative.
He also guided the participants on the project, prevent and treat (PPT) intervention to save children from pneumonia, communication strategy and plan, signs, goal of SAANS and treatment.
Dr. Limanaro, DPO (UIP and RCH), who chaired the programme, said that the main objective of the campaign is to reduce child mortality due to pneumonia by creating awareness of pneumonia in the community.
