Health department conducts programme on common cancers

DIMAPUR — National Programme for Non-Communicable Disease (NCD), Department of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, and Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati, organised a one-day programme on “Common cancers: prevention, screening and early diagnosis” for medical officers, MOs (AYUSH), dental surgeons and community health officers (CHO) at De Oriental hotel on November 14.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Rahul Sonwane, project manager of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, while the keynote address and overview of the programme was delivered by Dr. Alemwabang Aier, joint director and SPO (NP-NCD), an update from Health department stated.

Speaking at the programme, the special guest and additional director and SPO (NHM), Dr. Mereninla, stated that Kohima and Mokokchung districts are priviledged to be trained on non-communicable disease under pilot project programme. She also reminded the participant to be accountable in delivering the services to the community.

Powerpoint presentation on ‘Oral cancer prevention and early diagnosis’ was made by Dr. Prakash Sutar, department of Head & Neck Surgical Oncology, BBCI Guwahati, while presentation on ‘Access to affordable cancer care for one and all’ project overview was made by Dr. Chaveri Acharyya, project coordinator.

Presentation on ‘Cancer health care service in cancer and policies in cancer prevention and control’ was made by Dr. Rahul Sonwane, while presentation on ‘Breast cancer prevention’ was made by Dr. Prakharnshu, Department of Surgical Oncology, Breast Services, BBCI, Guwahati, and presentation on ‘Cervix cancer prevention’ was made by Dr. Vijaylaxmi Daval, Department of Gynecological Oncology, BBCI Guwahati.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Chaveri Acharyya, project coordinator.
