Seyochung village school staff shortage, PHC upgrade discussed

KOHIMA — Longtili C Sangtam, vice president of the Seyochung Village Students’ Union, held meetings in Kohima on Tuesday with officials from the Department of School Education and the Department of Health and Family Welfare to address key concerns affecting Seyochung village, Kiphire district.

In the first meeting, Longtili met with Deputy Director of School Education, Nellayappan B, to discuss the ongoing challenges at the Government High School, Seyochung village.

He raised concerns about the shortage of key staff, including a headmaster, assistant headmaster, and science teacher. As a result, students seeking enrolment in higher classes for 2024 have been sent to the Government High School, Kiphire town.

The deputy director emphasised the importance of an active School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) to ensure the smooth functioning of the school and called for greater community involvement.

He assured the union that the department would take the necessary steps to address the issue.

Later in the day, Longtili met with the Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare to discuss the need to upgrade the Health and Wellness Centre in Seyochung village to a Primary Health Centre (PHC).

Sangtam pointed out that, with the growing population and the significant distance from the sub-divisional headquarters, the village urgently requires a PHC to improve access to healthcare.

The principal director acknowledged the need and promised that the department would explore ways to address the upgrade. However, he mentioned challenges related to limited funds and staffing, which currently hinder immediate progress. Despite these challenges, he assured that the department remains committed to finding a solution.
