Khiamniungan Students’ Union demand accurate representation of tribe name
DIMAPUR — The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed dismay over the continued misprinting of “Khiamniungan,” the name of their tribe.
In a press release on Tuesday, the student body stated it was saddened to see institutions like the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) set exam questions with the misspelled name of a major tribe in the state.
“The carelessness in screening of the questions is seen from the repeated setting up of wrong spelling in a consecutive year i.e. 2023 & 2024. Rather, the people of Noklak, is exhausted with correcting every misspelled or mispronounced name of the tribe”, it said.
Stating that this has “deeply hurt the sentiments of the tribe”, the KSU noted that it has published multiple rejoinders on the issue in the past, yet the name continues to be “distorted across various platforms.” It urged for redressal of the recurring error and for accurate representation of the tribe’s nomenclature.
