The ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Nagaland and Sikkim at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima.

DIMAPUR — On Day 2 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Nagaland and Sikkim at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, Nagaland took the lead, finishing at 194/2 in 66 overs, following a remarkable performance with both bat and ball.

According to an update, Nagaland leads by 2 runs, having earlier bowled out Sikkim for 192 in 106 overs.

Dega Nischal played a crucial role in Nagaland’s batting, scoring an unbeaten 103 off 168 balls. His partnership with Hem Chetri provided the stability Nagaland needed and helped secure a lead by stumps. Hem Chetri supported Nischal with an unbeaten 59 off 124 balls.

Earlier, Dip Borah was outstanding with the ball, claiming 5 wickets in 13 overs, leading Nagaland’s attack. Jagadeesha Suchith claimed 2 wickets. Jonathan Rongsen also contributed with 2 wickets, helping bowl out Sikkim for 192 in 106 overs.

For Sikkim, Ankur Malik took 1 wicket in 22 overs, while Lee Yong Lepcha, the captain, claimed 1 wicket in 16 overs.

Gujarat defeat Nagaland

Meanwhile, in the Cooch Behar Trophy, Gujarat defeated Nagaland by an innings and 297 runs at Sovima Cricket Ground, Sovima.

Gujarat declared their innings at 410/4, powered by Luv Padhiyar’s unbeaten 125 off 193 balls. Nagaland’s Sundram Kumar claimed 3 wickets for 124 runs.

The home team faced a challenging task in response, with their first innings ending at 15 runs in just 17.3 overs. Vraj Kaushik Desai’s remarkable bowling performance, claiming 9 wickets for 7 runs, left the batting lineup in tatters.

In the follow-on, Nagaland showed some resistance but managed only 98 runs, with Samir Ali contributing 20 runs off 40 balls.

Gujarat’s Rudra N Patel bowled an impressive spell, taking 5 wickets for 16 runs to seal the victory.
