DIMAPUR — Sazolie College, Jotsoma, held its 12th annual Cultural Day on November 6, featuring a variety of activities and contests.

An update mentioned that there were a total of eight cultural troupes: Eastern Cultural Troupe, Sumi Cultural Troupe, Gorkha Cultural Troupe, Chakhesang Cultural Troupe, Lotha Cultural Troupe, Ao Cultural Troupe, United Cultural Troupe, and Angami Cultural Troupe.

Each cultural troupe was given the opportunity to present two cultural items for the competition, including forms of folk expression such as dance, war cries, drama, song, and games.

Kevingule Tachü, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Art and Culture, and Peihau Nsarangbe, Assistant Director of the Directorate of Art and Culture, were the resource persons for the panel talk on the topic “Revitalising Naga cultural heritage in the face of modernisation”.

Earlier, Dr. Gopal Chetri, the principal of the college, in his keynote address, emphasised that culture is the identity of a people and that it reveals who they are and where they come from.

In the competitions, the Ao troupe secured first place in the song competition, while the Chakhesang troupe placed second in the dance competition.

In the drama competition, the Sumi troupe took first place, followed by the Angami troupe, while in the games, the Sumi troupe secured first place and Angami came in second.
