DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has pinned hope on the chairman and the members of 16th Finance Commission of making favourable recommendations in respect of Nagaland, following their recent visit to the state.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the party expressed gratitude to the team for holding exhaustive consultative meetings with the state government, tribal bodies, civil society organisations, political parties, and the business community.

“The recommendations of the commission to the government of India are of utmost importance in deciding the future of the country’s economy for the next five years, which affects the overall development of the states, especially the resource-strapped smaller states like Nagaland.

“We are confident that after hearing all the submissions made by the stakeholders, the recommendations of the commission will be favourable for the future growth and development of the state,” the statement read.

It appreciated the participation of all the organisations in the consultative meeting. The NDPP lauded the response from political parties, especially BJP, NPF, NCP, NPP and INC, as a positive stride in taking Nagaland forward. “This attitude of leaving political differences aside and coming together for the common purpose of uplifting the people and the state will definitely be a major factor as we continue to serve the people.

“We hope that even in the future, such positive attitude continues. We thank all the political parties for their positive participation in interacting with the members of the commission,” it stated.

The party congratulated the state government led by the chief minister, the chief secretary, and the finance commissioner for successfully hosting the team.

Also, the party congratulated the people of Meluri and lauded the state government decision to create the district of Meluri. “The NDPP wishes the people of Meluri, the youngest district of Nagaland, all the very best as they begin a new journey.

“The magnanimity of the people of Phek district in making this possible by their wholehearted support in the efforts cannot be ignored, and we hope that this unity and brotherhood will continue in the days to come,” it added.
