DIMAPUR — The 16th Kukami Trophy (men’s football), 5th I Vizheto Chophi Memorial Trophy (men’s volleyball), 16th Lhosheli Neho Memorial Trophy (women’s volleyball), 1st Japika Zhimomi Men’s Badminton Trophy, and 1st Vikheli P Muru Memorial Trophy (women’s badminton), organised by the Kuhuboto Ghakhu Sports Association, commenced on Wednesday at Kuhuboto.

Attending the event as the chief guest, state Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president Hinoka Chophi in his address highlighted the deeper significance of football beyond just the sport, according to an update from the state BJYM.

Acknowledging the talents emerging from the region, he applauded local players Homuka, Ito, Vinoka, and Puloka, who represented the state at the Subroto Cup, and commended their achievements, calling them “living proof of what dedication, hard work, and vision can achieve.”

Special thanks were extended to Mughato Aye for his role in nurturing these young talents.

Chophi called for greater collective action in supporting youth initiatives, whether through sports, education, or community service. “We want to empower our young people to achieve their dreams,” he said.

Chophi advocated youth engagement in sports as a positive alternative to substance abuse. “Football, like life, requires discipline, patience, and resilience. It’s about building character and embracing teamwork,” he said.

He called on the community to support youth initiatives, urging everyone to foster a healthier, stronger, and more united future.
