Capt. N Kenguruse tournament: Velocity Vipers, Halcyon United advance to quarterfinals
KOHIMA — Velocity Vipers FC and Halcyon United secured their places in the quarterfinals by overcoming their opponents in the ongoing Capt. N Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on Tuesday.
In a thrilling opening match, Velocity Vipers FC triumphed over Sports Society SFC with a score of 2-1, securing their victory in a closely contested battle.
Sports Society SFC initially took the upper hand when Imnatoshi scored in the 22nd minute. However, their lead was quickly equalised by Shellen Khamba, who netted the first goal for Velocity Vipers FC in the 38th minute.
A fierce match continued between the two teams until the Vipers scored again, this time from Gunling in the 40+2 minute, giving them a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Despite the efforts from Sports Society SFC in the second half, Velocity Vipers FC held their ground and remained unbeaten, advancing to the next round.
Velocity Vipers FC will compete against Mez & Co. FC in the quarterfinals.
Similar to the first match, Halcyon United and King Hornet FC also ended with a score of 2-1 in the second match.
Halcyon United took the lead in the 9th minute when Weliso Kapfo converted a penalty, giving his team a crucial advantage.
King Hornet FC launched an attack in the second half, with Ikuto scoring in the 50th minute. However, Shurhosul’s goal in the 62nd minute sealed the victory for Halcyon United.
