Tokhü Emong festival kicks off in Wokha

WOKHA — The Tokhü Emong celebration kicked off on Monday at the local ground in Wokha, with MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, chairman of District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Wokha, attending the inauguration of Tokhü Stalls 2024 as the special guest.

The event featured about a hundred stalls promoting youth, handicrafts, and entrepreneurship in the district.

The Tokhü Emong, the premier festival of the Lotha community, will continue until November 7. The main event—the last day—will be attended by S Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, as the special guest.

During the inaugural event, Humtsoe expressed gratitude to the Lotha Hoho for honouring their heritage and celebrating Tokhü Emong, a festival that represents unity, peace, and brotherhood. He reminded attendees that the Lotha community has a history of overcoming numerous challenges, with their ancestors leading the way in various fields, including social and political domains.

Humtsoe stated that the Lotha community has been a forerunner among the Nagas, significantly contributing to the social and political formation and reformation of Naga society. He noted that the festive atmosphere of Tokhü Emong continues to foster a sense of togetherness and pride among the Lotha people, supported by various dignitaries and community leaders.

During the event, a welcome note was delivered by Mhondamo Ovung, vhairman of the Lotha Hoho, while Limathung N. Yanthan, president of the Lotha Youth Hoho, provided guidelines for the usage of Tokhü stalls.

The event was chaired by Limathung Odyuo, joint secretary of the Lotha Hoho, with an invocation by Rev. Abemo Jungio, pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church.
