DIMAPUR — St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima hosted its second Music and Art Festival ‘A symphony of refined tunes’ at the university campus on Oct. 29.

According to an update from the college, the music fest is a testament to the university’s commitment to promoting and tapping the immense talents and potential of music among the students of St. Joseph University.

The festival commenced with a grand inauguration ceremony attended by the guest of honour, Tali Angh, founder of ‘Prism’ and ‘Love Life Liberty’ missions and a Governor awardee; Vice-Chancellor of St. Joseph University, Dr. D Gnanadurai; higher authorities, judges, HoDs of various departments, faculty members, non-teaching staffs and students.

The inaugural programme featured captivating solo and group songs, dance performances, and a violin recital by the students, which set an inspiring tone for the event.

In his address, Tali Angh drew from his life experiences to encourage students to focus on creating and composing own their music, rather than just singing cover songs, highlighting that this requires consistency and commitment.

He also emphasised the importance of continuously upgrading and enhancing their skills in all areas of life to achieve success.

The second session commenced with a solo competition, where the top seven students auditioned for the main event. Imtimenla Imchen was declared the winner, with Sentiakum Jamir as the runner-up.

This was followed by an intra-departmental dance competition, won by the Department of Political Science.

The highlight of the Music Fest was the ‘Battle of the Bands,’ featuring eight bands from across the university. Bands from various genres took the stage, creating an electrifying atmosphere.

Each group showcased remarkable teamwork, musical skill, and stage presence. The fusion of instruments, vocals, and creativity illustrated the versatility of musical expression, leaving the audience captivated. Lunar Groove emerged as the winner, with Rhythm of the Odyssey as the runners-up.

The evening concluded with breathtaking student performances, including a violin performance, solo acts, and two rap artistes who mesmerised the audience.

“The St. Joseph University second Music and Art Festival was a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on the university’s cultural landscape. The event served as a testament to the power of artistic expression in fostering creativity, unity, and appreciation for diverse cultures. The Music Fest exemplifies the university’s commitment to academic excellence and nurturing and promoting artistic talent among the university students,” it stated.
