CBSE Board Exams 2025: Key dates and guidelines
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the Class 10 and Class 12 practical exam dates for the 2025 board exams. The practical exams, project works, and internal assessments for the 2024-25 academic session will be held from January 1, 2025, for all CBSE-affiliated schools in India and abroad. The theory exams will start from February 15, 2025, although a complete CBSE date sheet is still pending. For schools in winter-bound regions, practical exams will take place earlier, from November 5 to December 5, 2024. CBSE has provided detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for these winter-bound schools, which will be closed in January 2025.
The board has also issued a list of subjects with marks distribution to assist schools in conducting the practical exams smoothly. This circular was prompted by instances where schools made errors while uploading internal marks. The details include class, subject code, subject name, and the maximum marks allocated for theory exams, practical exams, project assessments, and internal assessments. It also clarifies whether an external examiner will assess practical exams, if practical answer-books will be provided, and the type of answer books used in the theory exams.
The maximum marks for each subject will total 100, distributed among theory, practical, project, and internal assessment components. “All may note for information and action to avoid any inconvenience to the students at later stages. Also ensure that correct marks are uploaded. Marks once uploaded will not be changed,” the statement on the CBSE circular reads.
The official notification indicates that schools must carefully check subject-wise marks distribution details to ensure accuracy when uploading practical marks, as errors cannot be corrected later. The notice emphasises that “The Practical Examinations/IA for class X and XII and the Board’s Annual Theory Examinations are scheduled to start w.e.f. 01/01/2025 and 15/02/2025 respectively.” Each subject in both classes will carry a total of 100 marks, divided across theory exams, practical exams, project work, and internal assessments.
CBSE has instructed schools to strictly adhere to the guidelines in the official notice to avoid any issues. Schools and students are urged to stay updated through the official CBSE website for any changes or additional information.
