DIMAPUR — Gracious Life Foundation (GLF) team members visited on Monday the young college student who was physically assaulted and robbed by three cadres of NSCN-K (Khango) while on his way to participate in the 5 km race organised by the NGO to commemorate World Mental Health Day, observed globally on October 10 each year.

Expressing “deep sorrow and concern” for the victim, a press release issued by the organisation stated that the mental health squads from the organisation reached out to him to offer psychological support to help him cope with the aftermath of the distressing event.

Mentioning that following the incident the victim suffered from distress, leading to sleepless nights and flashbacks of the scene, as well as being socially withdrawn for about one week, the release stated that this incident has also caused his family and loved ones to experience mental turmoil, resulting in their being hypervigilant and tense about his safety.

“It has not only caused mental distress to the victim but also to those around him, which only shows that mental health is a collective responsibility,” it read, adding that team GLF also extended their support to the brave young man by presenting him with a ‘Certificate of Participation’ acknowledging his stand in support of mental health and his commitment to what is right.

It further noted that the irony lies in the incident occurring on a day when mental health is being prioritised and strongly condemned the grievous act.
