DIMAPUR — A Network Travels bus was involved in an accident on the night of October 26 along the NH 29 stretch between Medziphema and Pherima.
According to UBSI Akum, the officer in charge of Traffic Chümoukedima, the accident occurred around 9:45 pm. Reports indicate that approximately 66 passengers, including minor children, were on board the bus.
The bus driver has been arrested and is currently under judicial custody. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but authorities suspect that the bus was overspeeding and lost control while navigating a turn on the road. The vehicle defect report is still pending, the officer said.
He said the bus was travelling from Manipur to Bihar via Dimapur, and following the accident, passengers were “scattered,” making it difficult to determine the exact number of men, women, or children on board.
While no serious injuries have been reported, injured passengers are receiving treatment at various hospitals, including Faith Hospital, CIHSR, and District Hospital Dimapur, he added.
