Guwahati win All Assam Karate Championship, securing 136 medals

DIPHU — The five-day All Assam Karate Championship organised by the All Assam Karate Association (AAKA) in collaboration with the Karate Karbi Anglong (KKA) concluded at the Sarsing Teron Multi-Purpose Sports Complex of the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA), Diphu, on Saturday.

The Guwahati team lifted the championship trophy for collecting the highest number of medals, amassing a total of 136 medals: 51 gold, 40 silver, and 45 bronze.

The first runner-up position was secured by Dibrugarh district, which collected a total of 47 medals, comprising 15 gold, 10 silver, and 22 bronze. The second runner-up was Jorhat, which amassed a total of 32 medals, including 9 gold, 7 silver, and 16 bronze.

Barpeta secured fourth position with 8 gold, 8 silver, and 14 bronze medals. Charaideo finished fifth with 8 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze. Kamrup claimed sixth position with 7 gold, 6 silver, and 22 bronze.

Lakhimpur came seventh with 6 gold, 15 silver, and 16 bronze. Sonitpur placed eighth with 6 gold, 6 silver, and 12 bronze. Darrang took ninth position with 6 gold, 6 silver, and 12 bronze, while Bongaigaon rounded out the top ten with 6 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Raju Tisso, chairman of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), presented the champion’s trophy to the winning team, Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised that every person should strive to excel in life. Tisso highlighted the importance of play, learning, singing, dancing, and enjoying life, noting that children often imitate their elders as a way to learn.

He emphasised the significance of maintaining a positive mindset and contributing to society through individual actions. Tisso expressed his hopes for the young audience, wishing them success in their future endeavours.

Adarsh Choudhury, general secretary of the AAKA, stated that around 4,000 participants, including technical officials, team managers, coaches, and guardians, took part in the mega event.

He noted that during the inaugural function on October 22, the Chief Executive Member, Ronghang, announced plans for a separate indoor stadium for karate sports.

Stating that AKA has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Assam to bring a coach from Japan to train local children for two years, he maintained that if the indoor stadium for karate is constructed, the coaching centre will also be established there, along with the Japanese coach.
