DIMAPUR — The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) expressed deep shock and sadness by the untimely demise of Themmaso Tallanao, president of the Tangkhul Mayarnao Naga Long (TMNL), and Masothing, assistant general secretary of TMNL, who tragically lost their lives on Thursday following a fatal accident near the Indo-Myanmar border at Kamjong, Ukhrul district.

In a condolence note, it said that at the time of their passing, they were fulfilling their duty as part of the NSF Reconnaissance Mission to Ukhrul and Chandel to assess the implications of the abrogation of the Free Movement Regime.

“Their commitment and dedication to the cause of the Naga people in this perilous endeavour are a testament to their courage and deep sense of responsibility,” it read.

Mourning their demise, the NSF stated that their passing leaves a void that words cannot fill and their legacy will continue to inspire the Naga youth and the broader Naga community in their collective pursuit of justice, peace, and sovereignty.

It extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Tangkhul community, and all those impacted by this tragic incident.

“As we grieve, we stand united in our resolve to carry forward the cause for which Eno. Themmaso Tallanao and Eno. Masothing gave their all, keeping their memories alive in our hearts and actions,” it said.

In a similar message, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) condoled the passing of Tallanao and Masothing, stating that the devastating loss of two remarkable leaders has deeply affected the Naga community.

Describing Tallanao and Masothing as beacons of hope and dedication for the Naga people, it said that their contributions, vision, and steadfast leadership in the pursuit of justice and peace have left a lasting impact that will continue to inspire generations, especially the Naga youth.

“In this time of mourning, the DNSU stands in solidarity with their bereaved families, the Tangkhul community, and everyone who is grieving this irreparable loss. We extend our heartfelt sympathies and prayers, asking that the Almighty provide strength, solace, and comfort during these difficult times,” it read.

Stating that the DNSU reaffirms its commitment to carry forward their legacy, ensuring that their sacrifices were not in vain, it was announced that in honour of the two leaders, the DNSU office will remain closed on October 25 as a mark of respect and mourning for their invaluable service to the Naga cause.
