MDFA: NU Lumami extend unbeaten streak; Telongjem cruise into knockouts

MOKOKCHUNG — NU Lumami continued their unbeaten run in the group stages with an emphatic 5-1 victory over LYM, thanks to a stunning second-half performance at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Monday.

After a quiet first half that ended goalless, the match came alive in the second half, with NU Lumami sealing the fate of LYM and berth to the knockout stage.

LYM took the lead in the 52nd minute when Rukune found the net, but their advantage was short-lived. NU Lumami responded just three minutes later with an equaliser from M Phaowang, who would go on to deliver a match-winning performance. Phaowang netted a brilliant hat-trick, scoring again in the 71st and 84th minutes, establishing NU Lumami’s dominance.

Neili added to the tally with two quick goals in the 82nd and 85th minutes, securing a comprehensive 5-1 win. NU Lumami’s powerful attacking display has solidified their position as strong contenders in the tournament as they move forward with their unbeaten record intact.

Meanwhile, defending champions Telongjem secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over KSUM, advancing to the knockout stages. After a goalless first half, Telongjem took control in the second half, breaking the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Zhotso.

With momentum on their side, Telongjem continued to dominate possession, and Japtheth Kath sealed the victory with two goals in the 83rd and 85th minutes. Telongjem, are chasing their fourth consecutive title, remain favorites as they progress further into the competition.
