DIMAPUR — A major fire broke out in Unity Village, Chümoukedima, on Monday morning, destroying ten homes and leaving the families who lived there homeless.

The fire, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, was brought under control by around 1 pm. While two nearby houses sustained some damages, firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading further.

The officer said that no casualties were reported and the estimated cost of the damage caused by the fire is yet to be determined. The ten homes destroyed in the fire were thatched structures rented out to the families.

Kughavi Yeptho, the landlord, stated that the fire broke out between 10:30 and 10:40 am. He was able to move his car to safety, but his father’s vehicle sustained damage to the rear. Yeptho informed that the families were unable to salvage any possessions from their homes.
