DIMAPUR — As part of SVEEP Campaign 2024, a two-day sports event on the theme ‘Sports for votes’ was conducted for the students of Jalukie town, Peren district, on Oct 15 and the 16th.

The main objective of conducting the event was to create electoral awareness among youth, giving young and uprising stars a platform to showcase their talent in sports and also providing them the opportunity to registration in electoral roll, a DIPR report stated.

Day one of the event was held at GHSS ground, Jalukie town, with Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jalukie, TL Kiusumong Tikhir as the special guest.

He exhorted the students on various rights and privileges granted by the Constitution of India regarding electoral democracy and urged the students to learn and participate actively as responsible citizens.

The status of electoral roll for Peren district, as well as the schedule for Special Summary Revision 2024, was highlighted by Assistant Election Officer (AEO) Peren, Aketo, who also urged all eligible students to seize the opportunity and get them enrolled in electoral roll.

All fun games, such as tug of war, three-leg race and sack race for both boys and girls were played on day one.

On Oct. 16, a futsal tournament was organised on day-two at Ball Park, Jalukie town. The students divided themselves into six teams each (both boys and girls) and competed among themselves, displaying their skills, talents and most importantly their love for the game as promising players.

In the closing event, a word of gratitude was delivered by AEO Peren, which was followed by prize distribution for winners in all events, along with certificates, jersey and mementos for participating schools.

A total of 210 students from GHSS Jalukie and Barail Valley Hr. Sec. School participated in the event.

The event was organised by the Office of District Election Officer, Peren and the Nagaland Sports Association under the aegis of Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland.
