CSU serves 48-hour ultimatum to NHIDCL to repair Kohima-Jessami road

KOHIMA — The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), demanding immediate repairs to the hazardous Kohima-Jessami Road (NH-29).

The ultimatum, delivered to the NHIDCL’s Project Management Unit in Pfutsero on Wednesday, specifically mentioned the Chakhabama-Kikruma stretch, part of the ongoing 2-lane road construction project (Package-II).

Citing years of hardship endured by commuters, particularly residents of Phek district, due to the road’s deplorable condition, the CSU demanded urgent action.

During the 48-hour period, the NHIDCL has been asked to clear all road blockages caused by landslides and other obstacles. Additionally, the corporation must repair the numerous potholes plaguing the stretch and install adequate drainage systems to prevent further deterioration.

The CSU warned that failure to address these issues within the stipulated period will result in the student body taking its own measures and hold the NHIDCL fully responsible for any consequences.

The dilapidated condition of the Kohima-Jessami Road was also a point of contention during the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting in Phek on October 15, where Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, criticised the NHIDCL for its negligence.
