Kohima-Pedi-Peren road inaugurated amid public protests

DIMAPUR — Despite opposition from numerous public organisations, the Kohima-Pedi-Peren road was inaugurated virtually by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 12.

Few days before the inauguration, various organisations representing residents along this stretch of road had expressed their opposition, arguing that the project was still incomplete.

A Raj Bhavan statement on October 12 informed that Governor La. Ganesan visited the Border Road Task Force (BRTF) camp in Dimapur participated in the “e-inauguration”.

“Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister, Government of India, inaugurated 75 infrastructure projects of Border Roads Organisation (BRO), of which Kohima-Pedi-Peren road completed by Project Sewak, is one of the 75 infrastructure projects being e-inaugurated,” the statement read.

It quoted the governor as saying that the BRO’s “endeavours” were a testament to the commitment to strengthening the backbone of the nation’s defence and enhancing connectivity.

“The governor thanked the Union Defence Minister of our country, Rajnath Singh, for leading this initiative and also to all the officials of the BRTF for the successful completion of the Kohima-Pedi-Peren Road in our state,” it stated.

Ganesan further expressed appreciation of the recognition given to the exceptional achievements of the meritorious children of the Casual Paid Labourers of BRTF in Dimapur.

“The governor further appreciated the Border Roads Task Force for their commitment to the welfare of their employees, especially those who are often overlooked. It is a testament to their understanding that the backbone of their workforce is built on the diligence of every member, regardless of their position,” he said.
