DIMAPUR — The Tsonglak Committee of Kiusam Town celebrated Tsonglaknyi, a festival of the Tikhirs, at Kiusam town in Kiphire district on Thursday.

According to an update, V Asuthong, second GB, addressing the gathering, stated that the term ‘Tsonglaknyi’ is made up of two words: “Tsong,” which means shield, and “lak,” which means sanctification.

He added that in ancient times, it was a feast for menfolk. On this day, menfolk would cleanse their weapons and other valuable assets. It was the most important festival celebrated among the Tikhir people.

Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu stated in his speech that in ancient times, there was a practice of cleansing weapons and shields. Today, this value of cleansing and sanctification continues by introspecting, renewing the spirit of prosperity, and building relationships through sharing and caring.

In ancient times, it was a feast for men who would rise early to perform this sanctification. He added that this value of discipline and hard work continues in everyone’s life, as hard work and success are intertwined to reap a good harvest.

The event featured cultural dances, a feast, and a friendly volleyball match.
