DIMAPUR — The Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) has expressed opposition to the proposed inauguration of the incomplete Kohima-Pedi-Peren road by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 12.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the organisation contended that the scheduled opening, orchestrated by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Project Sewak, raises grave concerns about the safety of the public “due to the road’s incomplete infrastructure and several critical unfinished sections”.

“We, the WAPO, find it ‘irresponsible and unacceptable’ to inaugurate a project that remains incomplete and potentially hazardous where key portions of the road, including vital bridges, have not been fully constructed, and the incomplete blacktopping on various stretches have been causing much inconveniences to the commuters for the past many years.

“We strongly urge the authorities to immediately halt the planned inauguration and address the completion of the unfinished works. WAPO remains vigilant and will continue to monitor the situation closely, and we stand firm in holding the authorities accountable and ensuring that the road is constructed to the highest possible standards before it is inaugurated,” it asserted.
