Lamhai-Kiyevi dispute: Nagaland govt. says situation under control
KOHIMA — Nagaland government has directed the state district administration to immediately send forces to the disputed area Lamhainamdi-Kiyevi area.
Addressing a press conference in Kohima on Wednesday, Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye said that things are under control currently. He pointed out that the dispute is an old one and the state government doesn’t want a repeat of the past violence where lives have been lost.
On the allegation that the state government has not been doing anything since 2019, Kenye said that there have been progress ‘but the state government cannot be expected to take up cases on its own’. He asserted that Nagaland government will work towards ensuring that there is no further violence.
Kenye informed that the state forces have been deployed at the site of violence, adding that 24×7 monitoring continues to be difficult due to the vastness of the area. He maintained that the state government wants the two communities to try to pursue ‘some kinds of negotiation’.
