Thousands participate in Kohima village cleanliness drive

DIMAPUR — The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) organised a mass social work on October 2, coinciding with the Swachh Bharat initiative, with the primary objective to clean and beautify the village surroundings in preparation for the upcoming festive season and to ensure that Kohima Village remains clean and green.

The social work included a village-wide cleanliness drive, which involved cleaning public spaces, clearing drains, whitewashing walls and removing waste from various localities, according to a press release.

The event saw participation with about 2,500 volunteers from Dapfhütsumia Thinuo, Lhisemia Thinuo, Pfuchatsumia Thinuo, Tsütuonuomia Thinuo and various colonies in the rural areas of Kohima, consisting of both youth and elderly.

Special attention was given to public spaces such as roads, community halls and public pathways.

Meanwhile, the KVYO extended its gratitude to the deputy commissioner of Kohima, the administrator of the Kohima Municipal Council, the executive engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (Urban Division), and the BDO, Rural Development (RD) Block, Kohima, for their support and assistance in making this event a success.

LFHSS: A total of 162 NSS student volunteers from Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS), Kohima, under the guidance of superior Rosemary Kazhiia, principal Sr. Lucy Thomas, vice principal, programme officers, and teachers, participated in a cleanliness drive to observe Swachhata Hi Seva week.

An update stated that the cleanliness drive was carried out along the roadside, in the adopted village of Aaradura, gardens, parks, religious places, toilets, and the taxi stand.

A door-to-door awareness programme was also conducted by the student volunteers, and essay and painting competitions were organised.

The NSS volunteers of LFHSS, Kohima, also promoted Rashtriya Poshan Maah by visiting a few homes and creating awareness about the importance of complementary feeding, nutritional values, and growth monitoring.
