Farmer-scientist interaction programme held in Medziphema village

DIMAPUR — In a step towards sustainable agriculture, local farmers of Medziphema village participated in a farmer-scientist interaction programme, organised by NEH component of onion and garlic and vegetable crops, Nagaland Centre, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS-NU) on September 30.

The interaction was focused mainly on creating awareness among tribal farmers on the importance of growing onion and garlic in kitchen garden and encouraging them to adopt kitchen gardening and new technologies recommended by ICAR-DOGR, Pune and NEH component of onion and garlic, Nagaland Centre for uplifting their livelihood, an update stated.

Project in charge, Dr. Moakala Changkiri, who chaired the programme, encouraged the farmers to adopt onion and garlic cultivation in the village for self sustenance and economic development.

Falcon garden tool kit consisting of hand rake, hand cultivator, khurpi, shovel and other agri-inputs like Nalpak, Nisarga, Safe Root (Tricoderma Harzianum) and rabi onion seeds, were distributed to the farmers.

The farmers expressed gratitude to ICAR-DOGR, Pune, NEH Component of Onion and Garlic and NEH Component of Vegetable Crops, Nagaland Centre, SAS-NU for organising the programme, it stated.
