Advisor Keoshu exhorts youth to build dynamic Northeast
KOHIMA — Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S Keoshu Yimkhiung on Tuesday called for collective efforts of the youth to build a Northeast region that is as dynamic and advanced as any other regions, where every dream has a chance to flourish.
The advisor was addressing the opening ceremony of youth exchange-cum-exposure programme between Nagaland and Meghalaya held at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Kohima.
Yimkhiung said the youth exchange programme between the vibrant states of Nagaland and Meghalaya is not just a platform for interaction, but a powerful tool for building bridges of understanding, cultural exchange, and national integration.
He described Nagaland and Meghalaya as the two jewels of the Northeast as the two states boast rich traditions, diverse cultures and unique histories.
“From the colourful festivals of the Nagas, such as the Hornbill Festival, to the rich tribal heritage and serene landscapes of Meghalaya, home to the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo people, both states represent the incredible cultural mosaic that India is known for,” he said.
He also said the exchange programme gives the youth a chance to immerse themselves in each other’s way of life, to learn from the diverse customs, dialects, and traditions, and most importantly, to celebrate shared identity as Indians.
He also exhorted the participants that they represent the future of the nation as they are the agents of change, the ones who will shape the course of the country in the years to come.
Yimkhiung exuded hope that through interactions, collaborations and friendships, they will contribute towards breaking down stereotypes, building mutual respect, and fostering harmony between different communities.
The advisor went on to highlight that the exposure gained during the programme would include learning to navigate the challenges of the modern world like environmental sustainability, economic development, and social inclusion.
He exuded hope that through exchange visits, discussions and workshops, the participants will acquire skills and knowledge that can help them become better leaders, more informed citizens, and more engaged members of their communities.
“This programme is a step towards bridging any gap, whether they be social, cultural, or regional, and towards building stronger, more inclusive societies, ” he said.
Additionally, he also emphasised the role of the youth in driving progress in the region as, when compared to other mainland states of India, the Northeast still lags behind in various aspects – be it education, infrastructure or developmental activities.
He further maintained that through dedication and continuous learning, the Northeast can aspire to be as advanced and prosperous as any other part of India.
Earlier, Secretary of Youth Resources and Sports, Anthony Ngullie, in his welcome address, expressed delight that youths from Northeast educational capital Meghalaya have come to Nagaland, and acknowledged the Meghalaya government for choosing Nagaland as the destination for the youth exchange-cum-exposure programme.
Director of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS), Kethosituo Sekhose informed that the opening ceremony would be followed by cultural exchange programme, interactions among the youths and culinary workshop on Naga indigenous cuisines.
On October 2, there will be a trip to Mt. Pulie Badze and on their return the guests would get time for shopping in the state capital. On October 3, the participants will visit the Kohima War Cemetery, the state museum and Raj Bhavan.
