DIMAPUR — Tetso College, Chümoukedima, in collaboration with NIELIT Nagaland, organised a cyber security awareness week from September 23 to the 27th.

The initiative was aimed at educating students, staff and faculty on the importance of protecting their digital presence in an increasingly connected world, the college stated in an update.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in a series of interactive activities, competitions and educational sessions, designed to foster a deeper understanding of cyber security risks and preventive measures.

Among the highlights were the quiz competition, organised by NIELIT, which tested students on their knowledge of key cyber security concepts, and the ‘CyberLens: analyse, learn, present competition,’ where students analysed real-world cyber security cases and presented their findings.

Additionally, the poster design competition and games like jigsaw puzzle, cross word and many more activities, encouraged creativities as participants tackled topics such as phishing scams, sextortion, deepfakes and password security.

Highlights of the valedictory programme were welcome speech by director of Tetso College, Kvulo Lorin; key note address about the event by director of NIELIT Kohima, L Lanuwabang, presentations by the finalists of the CyberLens competition and poster design showcase featuring the winning entries.

The day also included expert-led sessions on pressing topics in cyber security. Laishram Hemanta Singh, a cyber forensic analyst from NIELIT Kohima, delivered an informative session on the dangers of deepfakes, while Ninoto Zhimomi, ACP Chümoukedima, spoke about phishing scams.

Daniel Meren, additional director of NIELIT Dimapur, addressed the rising threat of sextortion, and A Morimenba Amer, joint director of NIELIT Kohima, provided insights on cyberbullying.

Additionally, Atoshe Lohe, principal forensic analyst from NIELIT Kohima, gave a detailed talk on cyber laws, offering participants a legal perspective on combating online crimes.

Participants also had the opportunity to engage in a cyber drill organised by NIELIT Kohima, which provided a hands-on demonstration of how to effectively respond to cyber threats.

The quiz competition that followed was a thrilling event, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a competitive setting. The week’s activities concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, recognising the achievements of participants across various competitions.

“Overall, the Cyber Security Awareness Week at Tetso College was a resounding success, equipping students and staff with valuable knowledge and practical skills to navigate the digital world safely.

“The event underscored the importance of cyber security in today’s society and provided participants with the tools necessary to protect their online identities and data,” the release stated.
