DIMAPUR — Under the patronage of Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), the Lotha Wrestling Association (LWA) today launched a curtain raiser programme for a 10-day long intensive wrestling training camp at VDB Hall, Wokha town.

A press release informed that approximately 20 wrestlers from several Ranges, along with management official, registered to be part of the camp. Prominent wrestlers under NWA like Visevo Zhasümo, Thepukhoyi Swuro and Hangche-u Zeliang have been assigned as coach/trainer for the 10-day camp.

NWA president Vivolie Kezo was a special invitee at the camp. He stressed the importance of wrestling, which is a traditional sports played since time immemorial.

Kezo also informed that similar training camps for Pochury Wrestling Association (PWA), Rengma Wrestling Association (RWA), Sumi Wrestling Association (SWA) and few others are in the pipeline in October.

He added that a separate state-level Naga Style wrestling championship for “non-practised wrestling communities”, apart from NWA affiliated units (Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang), will be organised probably in March next year.

The NWA president urged the Lotha youths to be prepared and participate in the championship. Kezo further informed that Nagaland style wrestling is in line to be introduced during the Asian Alysh Belt Wrestling Championship, scheduled for November this year, where more than 20 nations across the globe have confirmed for their participation.

Kezo, on behalf of the NWA, extended a special invitation to the LWA wrestlers to be part of the forthcoming 17th International Naga Wrestling Championship 2024, tentatively scheduled for December 4 at Khouchiezie.

LWA president Mharhomo Lotha appealed to the Lotha community members to take forward wrestling. He also appealed to NWA to give all possible assistance in the form of technical and other procedural follow up.
