Dimapur: Tragopan road over bridge to close from October 1

Police issue advisory outlining diversions, restrictions

DIMAPUR — The Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Hotel Tragopan on National Highway 29 in Dimapur will be closed to all vehicular traffic starting 6 am on October 1.

In this connection, the Dimapur Commissioner of Police issued a traffic advisory on Friday outlining diversions and restrictions to facilitate rehabilitation works. These measures will come into effect from 6 am on October 1, and remain in place until the completion of the project.

Restrictions for heavy vehicles

  • Total restriction of movement of heavy commercial vehicles within Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) jurisdiction from 7 am to 7 pm.
  • Heavy vehicles, including those belonging to the police, army, and paramilitary forces, are prohibited from using the flyover. Medium-sized school buses are exempt from this restriction.
  • Heavy vehicles entering Dimapur via Dillai Gate/New Field Gate and heading towards Chümoukedima/Kohima are directed to use the Khatkati CRPF Group Centre Charali Dimapur Bypass 4-Lane Highway.
  • Heavy/ transport vehicles intending to deliver cargo at western side of Dimapur (Golaghat Road, Blue Hill Area, GS Road, MP Road, Kalibari Road, Khermahal, Clock Tower, Tajen Ao Road) are to enter Dimapur through Dillai Gate and Newfield Gate.
  • Heavy/ transport vehicles intending to deliver cargo at eastern side of Dimapur (Nagarjan, Supermarket, Burma Camp, Purana Bazaar, Naharbari, Padumpukhri) and onward route towards Chümoukedima shall take the Khatkati CRPF Group Centre Charali Dimapur Bypass 4-lane Highway via Kaliram and Kushiabill Villages.

Light/medium vehicle routes

  • Light/medium vehicles travelling between Dimapur’s western side and Chümoukedima/Kohima are advised to use the Thahekhu route via Nagaland Zoological Park.
  • Vehicles travelling to Assam can take the Kushiabill or Veterinary Burma Camp road via Khatkhati Check Gate.

Other restrictions and diversions

While all routes, excluding the ROB, will remain open for other categories of vehicles (other than heavy/transport vehicles), all routes across several stretches within Dimapur will have one-way traffic flow, including:

  • Deluxe Point to Holy Cross Police Point, with only two-wheeler parking strictly enforced on the right-hand side of the road (Christian Hr. Sec. School side).
  • Khermahal to Deluxe Point
  • Kalibari Road (Jain Temple Gate to Durga Mandir Junction)
  • Public College of Arts and Commerce/Fire Station to Tourist Lodge Police Point

Additionally, vehicles travelling from Clock Tower towards Holy Cross Police Point must proceed directly to Dhobinallah, while vehicles originating from Dhobinallah and travelling towards Holy Cross Police Point must proceed directly to Clock Tower.

The advisory also stated that the route from Army Supply Police point, i.e., GS Road to Durga Mandir shall be two-way traffic.

Commercial vehicle restrictions

Entry of commercial vehicles (auto-rickshaws, auto pick-ups, Tata Mobiles) will be restricted from 9 am to 7pm at:

  • Tourist Point Flyover
  • Eros Lane Junction
  • Durga Mandir – Deluxe Point (MP Road)
  • Dhobinallah to City Tower and vice-versa

Meanwhile, the advisory stated that the further changes to these regulations may be implemented based on traffic convenience and feasibility. It also urged commuters to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the traffic regulations to ensure smooth traffic flow during the rehabilitation works.
