DIMAPUR — As part of the ongoing nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Rural Division Dimapur, in collaboration with the residents of Urra village, organised a cleanliness and plantation drive on September 25.

The initiative took place in the Urra village market area, which has been designated as one of the cleanliness target units (CTUs) under Rural Division Dimapur according to a DIPR report and saw participation from local volunteers.

CTUs are typically neglected garbage points, known as black spots, that are adopted during the campaign period for focused, time-bound transformation into clean areas.

The programme began with an address by the block sub-divisional officer, who emphasised the importance of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign. Following this, a pledge-taking ceremony was held before participants proceeded with the cleanliness activities.

As part of the drive, ten almond saplings were planted around the market area.

Meanwhile, two other CTUs located in Kukidolong and Jhomapani villages were also cleaned on September 23 as part of the campaign, with participation from local residents.

The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, running from September 15 to October 2, aims to revitalise the spirit of collective action and encourage citizen participation in cleanliness efforts nationwide.

Several cleanliness drives are scheduled across various villages throughout Chümoukedima district. In these villages, the campaign focusses on cleaning water supply, improving infrastructure, promoting waste segregation, and ensuring effective waste collection.

Notable efforts have already been carried out in the villages of Tir, Pherima B, Seithekema C, and Ruzaphhema, it mentioned.
