Major haul of illegal liquor in Nagaland

Police seize over 9,000 bottles in two-hour drive

DIMAPUR — In a major crackdown on illegal liquor, the Nagaland Police conducted a state-wide “surprise check” under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989.

The two-hour operation, conducted on September 21, resulted in the seizure of a total of 9,583 bottles of liquor of various brands, according to an update from the state police force.

Additionally, 28 cases were registered in various police stations across the state, and 30 people were arrested under Section 44(e) of the NLTP Act.

The highest seizure was made by the Kohima DEF with 1,869 bottles, followed by the 13th NAP (IR) battalion at Yajang in Mokokchung with 1,524 bottles, and the Dimapur Police Commissionerate (Niuland and Chümoukedima) with 1,225 bottles. (Refer table)

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Police stated that they will continue to enforce the NLTP Act and crack down on the sale and storage of illegal liquor. It also appealed to the public for cooperation in combating the sale of illegal liquor and encouraged citizens to report any illegal activity to the concerned SPs or the Police headquarters.
