Kohima child abuse: Accused doctor knocks on HC’s door
DIMAPUR — A doctor facing child abuse charges has petitioned the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court to quash the criminal proceedings against her in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kohima.
“This is an application under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 for quashing of the criminal proceedings in GR 93/2024 pending before the learned Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima, Nagaland, arising out of Kohima Women PS Case 05/2024 under Section 323/324 IPC read with Section 75 of the JJ Act”, stated an order issued by Justice Budi Habung on Thursday.
According to court records, the criminal petition was filed by Dr. Vibino Sabina. The court issued notice to the respondents, returnable by three weeks.
“As prayed for by the learned counsels for the parties, list this matter after the ensuing Puja vacation. In the meantime, the learned Public Prosecutor shall also obtain necessary instructions,” the order stated.
It may be recalled that in June this year, some civil society organisations—including Pochury Students’ Union, Phokhungri Village Council and Phokhungri Students’ Union—issued press statements alleging that an 11-year-old girl staying at the doctor’s house as domestic help had been ‘assaulted regularly’ by the accused woman ‘leading her to severe mental trauma’.
They informed that the minor girl was rescued by the Child Welfare Committee of Kohima on May 30 this year.
