Workshop on electric vehicles held at KPA

ATOIZU — Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu in Zunheboto district, in collaboration with the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC), Delhi, on Wednesday organised a one-day workshop on “Electric vehicles: Opportunities and challenges.”

The event was led by consultant of emobility from IIEC Delhi, Aishwariya Sharma, as the resource person.

Speaking during the session, Sharma highlighted the global landscape and top rankings of countries leading in electric vehicles (EV) adoption, where she emphasised the potential of EV in addressing global warming and air pollution, stating that motor vehicle emissions are among the highest contributors to pollution in India.

She shared on how EV can help reduce dependence on non-renewable energy such as petroleum and diesel. She reminded that the cost of charging an electric vehicle is significantly cheaper than fuel options.

Sharma also informed on various government subsidies and schemes available to promote the purchase of electric vehicles, where currently over 16 lakh EV have been sold in India due to such schemes.

She further highlighted several challenges currently faced by EV that include high cost as the technology being relatively new and the due to its limited demand. She, however, stated that the price of EV might be reduced in future with wider knowledge of the public and its advantage and demands.

During the workshop, a quiz and interactive session were held where the students have actively participated.

Earlier, the principal of Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu, Neisekho Chaya, expressed gratitude to the resource person and also encouraged the students to make the most of the workshop.

The event was chaired by Jenibemo and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by head of the Automobile Engineering Department. Ruokuobeilie Mere.
