DIMAPUR — Nagaland Government has received 80% of equipment for installing blood banks in Tuensang, Kiphire, Mon and Phek, the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court was informed on Wednesday.

“Mr. N Mozhui, the learned standing counsel, for the respondent nos. 2, 3 and 4 (state health authorities) submits that as per the work order, 80% of the equipment for constituting the Blood Bank in the 4 districts of Tuensang, Kiphire, Mon and Phek has been received, while 20% is yet to be received and it is expected that the equipment will be received soon.

“He, therefore, submits that some more time may be granted to complete the process of installation,” stated an order issued by a bench comprising Justice Kakheto Sema and Justice Budi Habung.

Accordingly, the court granted four weeks’ time to the authorities to install the blood banks in the four districts. The next hearing in connection with the public interest litigation (PIL) will be on November 6.

The PIL was filed in 2021 by a resident of Peren district seeking implementation of the National Blood Policy and the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the four districts.
