DIMAPUR — Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale has suggested Nagaland Government to pursue industrial development while assuring to arrange a meeting with business leaders in Mumbai, which will take place in the presence of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

He made this statement during a press conference held at Zone Niathu by the Park, Chümoukedima, on the final day of his two-day visit to Nagaland, today, September 7.

Athawale expressed pride in the fact that the Republican Party of India (A) has established committees in every north-eastern state, adding that even in Nagaland two candidates were elected on RPI (A) ticket during the Nagaland Assembly elections.

According to him, he met with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio yesterday and held a discussion for nearly half an hour, during which he had proposed the idea of promoting industrial development in Nagaland and as a follow-up, he invited Rio to Mumbai.

Athawale noted that Rio became Chief Minister of Nagaland for the fifth time with all 60 MLAs supporting his government, and remarked that no other state has a government like the one in Nagaland.

He also assured that he would definitely discuss the long-pending proposal for Kohima airport with the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Civil Aviation Minister in order to get this crucial demand of Nagaland approved.

The union minister asserted that he would work towards bringing a major project to Nagaland to create job opportunities, including speaking to the Minister of Heavy Industries to facilitate the implementation of a large-scale project in the state.

He also assured to address pending issues related to funding for District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRC) in Dimapur, Mon, and Tuensang, which has been halted since 2013 for DDRC in Dimapur.

He added that the  union ministry may also examine the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) submitted through the Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTR) concerning the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) in Eralibill, Dimapur.

Athawale assured that he would address the needs for De-addiction Centres for females in Kohima and Dimapur that would provide facilities for the treatment and care to females who are dependent on drugs. His other assurances include De-addiction Centres for boys under the age of 18 years in Dimapur, Kohima, Mon, Mokokchung, and Kiphire.

During the press conference, he also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri flagship schemes.
