DIMAPUR — The ICAR- KVK Wokha under ICAR for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, conducted a five-day capacity training programme for educated youths on the theme ‘Harvesting opportunities: Exploring Wokha-based agriculture ventures for youth empowerment in Agri. and Allied sectors’ from Aug. 26 to the 30th.

According to an update, the resource persons of the training programme were Dr. Moaakum Pongen, Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung, Dr. Mhalo Tungoe and Dr. Zuchamo Tungoe from KVK Wokha; Dr. Yanben M Kikon from the dept. of Veterinary and Health Services, Wokha; Dr. Wonchibeni K Ezung from dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima and Anuranjan from DC office, Wokha.

A brief objective of the training programme was delivered by Dr. Moa, chief technical officer (A/Sc). Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh, senior scientist and head, ICAR-KVK, Wokha, in his speech, encouraged the participants to explore and venture into different agri. and allied enterprises in the district for self-employment.

Dr. Yanben M Kikon, farm manager, PBC Wokha, stressed on the importance of exploring artificial insemination (AI) in pigs which, he said, can be taken up by any trained youth.

Stressing on meat-borne zoonotic diseases Dr. Wonchibeni K Ezung, consultant at NHM, Kohima, highlighted different zoonotic diseases and preventive measures.

Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung, CTO (Agronomy), encouraged the youths to take up cultivation of maize on large scale with proper scientific methods as an enterprise for livestock feeds, stating that the demand for feeds are ever increasing in the district.

Various potential enterprises under agri. and allied sectors in the district were highlighted by Dr. Mhalo Tungoe, CTO (Agri. Extension). Anuranjan, skill officer, DC office Wokha, informed on various schemes for entrepreneurial activities and encouraged the youths to avail the opportunities under agri. and allied sectors.

Altogether 25 youths participated in the training programme. Various inputs such as farm tool kits and vermibeds were distributed to all the participants.
