DIMAPUR — The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has condemned the recent transfer of the lone Environmental Science (EVS) assistant professor from Wangkhao Government College (WGC) and accused the concerned department of misusing power.

In a press release, the KSU said that the decision to transfer the assistant professor is both ill-conceived and highly detrimental, considering the already existing challenges faced by the college.

The union pointed out that Wangkhao Govt. College currently has 666 students; no less than any other colleges within Nagaland, and with the transfer of the only EVS assistant professor, the academic structure has been severely compromised.

“The assistant professor, who has been transferred under attachment, was the sole educator in the department, and her absence will undoubtedly affect the academic performance and future prospects of the students.

“The union wishes to remind the concerned department that the students’ academic outcomes are now in jeopardy due to this irresponsible decision, and it will hold the department accountable for any negative impact on the students’ performance,” the KSU said.

The student body also maintained that the recent posting of assistant professors has blatantly neglected the needs of Wangkhao Govt. College and the Konyak community in general.

“This act of neglect is particularly egregious given that all the relevant facts are already in the public domain,” it stated.

The union went on to mention that some of the fresh assistant professors were transferred even before completing their probation period of two years and, most importantly, without relievers.

“Despite being one of the oldest institutions in Nagaland, Wangkhao Govt. College continues to suffer from a shortage of faculty and has not yet seen the appointment of a Principal after the retirement of the former two month ago, contrary to the requirements of the New Education Policy,” it added.

The KSU appealed to the concerned department to immediately revoke the transfer order of the EVS assistant professor and to post sufficient faculty members to ensure the smooth functioning of classes.

“Failure to address this issue promptly will compel the union to take further action in the best interests of the students and the community at large,” the union informed.
