DIMAPUR — Khango-led NSCN/GPRN has strongly supported the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and civil society organisations (CSO) in opposing the state government decision to revisit the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act of 1989.

The NSCN (Khango) expressed grave concern over the prospective consequences aftermath revisiting and re-amendment of the act and its impact on future perspective of Naga societies.

“The NSCN/GPRN under the banner of “Nagaland for Christ” denounced the state government decision to lift the NLTP act on the state of Nagaland. The Nagas as a Christian nation has to be free from anti-social elements such as alcoholism influence that endangers the Christian moral values, family status, economic depletion and the progress in the community,” the statement read.

In the wake of recent incidents between various communities and national workers in Nagaland that empathically questioned the revolutionary spirit being affected under the influence of alcohol and other addictive substances, it was of the opinion that free flow of liquor in the state would further antagonise the peaceful atmosphere of Naga national cause.

The NSCN has appealed and advised the CSOs and so called committees in Nagaland, who vapourised the condemnation and escalation of miniature issues into burning hustle intentionally in print medias and social medias against the national workers for own personal gain, to raise their voice in this NLTP issues to save especially the youth.

The NSCN re-affirmed to take up steadfast measures to control anti-social elements that destroyed the Naga societies, which was being publicised on February 14, 2023 in Yongkhao village during the declaration and prayer of Ato Kilonser, Hokato Vusshe.

“State government and the legislators has to comprehensively initiate the punitive action to save the morale value of Christian without hurting the sentiments of the believers the same people’s who voted them to power during election. Today, ironically for their financial gain they forget the sacrifices and hardship attributed by our forefathers and pioneers to triumph over the impediment to bring Christianity in Nagaland,” it added.

The NSCN has appealed to all the right-thinking Naga peoples to support the churches, CSOs and religious leaders to firmly stand against the disastrous effect on the Naga societies.
