DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) informed that Nagaland would experience heavy rainfall in almost all the districts till August 29. The rains would be accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places.

During the period, heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Chümoukedima, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Peren and Wokha district. The other districts might experience cloudy moderate rain.

It, therefore, urged the public to take necessary precautionary measures during this time and exercise caution from lightning strikes and gale winds which might cause disruption in communication and connectivity.

It stated that Nagaland’s lowland and foothill regions including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit and Tuli, are vulnerable to inundated water logging and flash floods due to the potential of high precipitation in the hill sector.

In this regard, NSDMA urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during the period.

NSDMA further requested all the district disaster management authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during the monsoon period.

It also informed that some district headquarters including Kohima and other blocks might be cut off due to landslide caused by higher volume of precipitation. The key line departments, who are responsible for maintenance of public infrastructures, are asked to be on vigil.
