Editor of The Arleng Daily passes away

DIPHU — TP (Tpong) Hanse, editor and publisher of The Arleng Daily, a Karbi vernacular daily, passed away around 2.30 am on Monday at Diphu Medical College and Hospital, after a prolonged illness. He was 44.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Hanse launched the Diphu-based ‘The Arleng Daily, the first Karbi daily, on June 9, 2004.

People from all walks of life, including MLAs, elected members of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council KAAC), civil society organisation leaders and other dignitaries paid their last respect to the deceased on Monday.

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of TP Hanse, the editor of The Arleng Daily. His contribution to local journalism and his unwavering commitment to the Karbi community will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace,” said Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC.

Tuliram Ronghang, Executive Member (EM) of KAAC; Rameswar Chauhan, editor and publisher of The Hills Times also paid their tribute, lauding his contribution in the field of media, in representing the voice and aspirations of the hills people.

The District Press Club of Karbi Anglong (DPCKA) also mourned the untimely passing of Hanse. ‘His premature demise is a great loss to the journalist fraternity of Karbi Anglong. His contributions to the growth and development of media in the region will never be forgotten. During this difficult time, the DPCKA extends heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family,’ read the condolence message.

The mortal remains of the deceased were laid to rest at Matipung burial ground after a funeral service at his residence on Monday evening.
