DIMAPUR — The National People’s Party (NPP) 17th Chizami Assembly Constituency has raised concern over the “pathetic” condition of Pfutsero-Zhavame road and called for immediate action from the government.

The Pfutsero-Chillo road, which not only connects Nagaland and Manipur but also is the lifeline of four villages — Tsüpfüme, Razeba, Zelome and Zhavame – with a population of more than 8,000, has been neglected for years with no sign of “new construction or repair”, the party said in a press communiqué.

Since the government turned a blind eye to the hardships faced by the people, a group of youths from Razeba area under Phek district was compelled to initiate a crowd funding on the theme “My road, my future” and repaired the 10 km stretch of road from Pfutsero to Zhavame in 2021, it added.

“It is time for the government to do justice to the people of Razeba area,” it said, urging the state government to provide an all-weather road to the people of area at the earliest.

The party also stated that deplorable road condition is affecting the economy and life of the people immensely.

“Despite the huge Agricultural potential that Razeba area has, the condition of the road is in such a state that the farmers cannot transport the products to the market. The government had declared Zhavame as ‘Vegetable Village’ and Tsupfume village as ‘Ground Apple village’, however when their products cannot reach the market due to bad road, the Government should be held responsible for the losses caused to the farmers,” it stated.

“The people of Razeba area have the basic right to (a) safe and all-weather accessible road,” it added.
