DIMAPUR — Dimapur Mahila Congress Committee (DMCC) on Tuesday felicitated Neiketuno Sechü, reigning Miss Nagaland, 2023; Tsuknungbela, entrepreneur (Oyster mushroom production); and Narola Yaden, entrepreneur (Tinly outdoor planters and urns) during the Naari Nyay Sammaan Samaroh held at Congress Bhavan in Dimapur.

Naari Nyay Sammaan Samaroh is a programme on empowering women. The DMCC felicitated prominent Naga women, who have made remarkable achievements in their respective fields.

The programme was organised to commemorate the 80th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, former prime minister of India, under whose leadership women were uplifted through various policies.

Speaking at the programme, Sanadola, secretary of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee and in-charge of Mahila, pointed out that women, despite being the backbone of society, family and community, still faced indiscrimination and subjected to inequality, injustice and domestic violence.

While pointing out that there are many issues that demand attention, she called upon the people to push for policies that protect women, promote their rights and ensure their full participation in all aspects of life.

“Let us recommit ourselves to the cause of gender justice and pledge to support and uplift the women around us to build a future where every woman can live without fear and without discrimination and with full dignity that she deserves,” she said.

Kutuho Chishi, president of Dimapur Congress Committee, also encouraged the people to work together to create a world where women have equal opportunities, rights and dignity and continue to strive for a society where women are empowered to lead.

Neojila, vice president of Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Committee, mentioned that that under Rajeev Gandhi leadership, policies like 33% reservation for women in the panchayat, corporation and other local bodies were introduced. She also stressed on the importance of educating the women about their rights.
