DC Chümoukedima issues orders on the Chathe River

DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner (DC) of Chümoukedima, Polan John, informed that the Water Resources Department, Government of Nagaland, has proposed to take up centrally sponsored flood management and broad area programme (FMBAP) under Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD and GR, New Delhi, along the floodplains of Chümoukedima district.

Therefore, in pursuance to the provision under Sec 41  and Sec 51 of the Disaster Management Act 2005, and in the interest of public safety and for implementation of flood management project along the Chathe river banks within the jurisdiction of Chumoukedima district, the DC has ordered that no person should obstruct the engineers of the water resources department during implementation of the flood management works.

It also stated that no person should obstruct the free flow of the Chathe River within the jurisdiction of Chümoukedima district. It added that the natural/ standard waterway as demarcated by the Water Resources Department must be maintained at all times and that no persons should encroach the natural waterway.

It warned that any person found violating the order would be liable for punitive action as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other relevant laws.

It, therefore, directed all concerned authorities, including law enforcement agencies and the Water Resources Department, Chümoukedima Town Council and the public to ensure strict compliance with the order.

It further stated that the order would come into effect immediately and remained in force until further notice.
