Nagaland landslide: People in affected area asked to vacate homes
DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner (DC) of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, has ordered “occupants/residents of the houses/shops located along the NH-29 landslide-affected area vacate their houses/shops without further delay and to re-locate to a safer zone”.
The order came hours after “the physical assessment of the landslide-affected area near Dzüdza bridge along NH-29 (KM 163+980 to KM 164+030)” by the officials of the district administration, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and Police, on Saturday.
It said that such a measure is needed to mitigate the risk of landslide on the affected community and prevent any loss of life or suffering.
Upon the inspection of the affected area, “it is reported that there is occurrence of high magnitude landslide which may further worsen with heavy rainfall”, it said, adding that “the continuing downhill movement of debris/slurry is likely to result in damage or destruction of houses/shops along the affected area”.
It went on to say that “a concerted action plan is being implemented to manage and mitigate the severity of the landslide”.
