Organisations condemn sexual assault on minor in Mokokchung
DIMAPUR — The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has condemned the “barbaric and despicable act of sexual assault” committed against a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in Mokokchung district on August 10.
In a condemnation note, the AKM termed the heinous crime, allegedly perpetrated by one Moakaba, a sergeant major of the NSCN (Khango), as an affront to the values and morals of the community.
“AKM demands that the accused be subjected to the severest punishment as per the relevant laws. Such a grievous violation of the dignity and innocence of a child cannot be met with anything less than the full weight of justice.
“The safety of our children and the sanctity of our community must be preserved through decisive legal action,” it stated.
The student body also issued a stern warning to any individual or group attempting to bail out the accused, saying that such actions will be viewed as a direct affront to the community and will be regarded as supporting the crime.

“We also take this moment to address a disturbing trend we have observed: non-Nagas adopting Naga names to commit crimes, thereby tarnishing the reputation and honour of the Naga people.
“This must serve as a lesson to all communities that such deceitful behaviour will not be tolerated. Our identity is precious, and we must all work together to protect it from those who would misuse it,” the AKM said, claiming that the accused is a Nepali.
Extending solidarity to the victim and her family, the AKM further assured full support and commitment to ensuring that justice is delivered.
NACWR: The Nagaland Alliance for Children and Women Rights (NACWR), while condemning the “heinous crime,” stated that the despicable act is a grave violation of human rights, dignity, and trust, causing devastating trauma that can have long-lasting effects on the victim’s life.
“We stand in solidarity with the survivor and demand that justice be served,” it said in a press statement, adding that the perpetrator must be held fully accountable for his actions. It called for swift and severe punishment as per the law.
It urged the government authorities to provide all necessary support to the victim and the family during this difficult time, maintaining that no child deserves to suffer such brutality.
It also called on all CSOs and NGOs to come forward and offer their support.
JCS: The Japukong Students’ Conference (JSC) has expressed deep sorrow and concern regarding the reported sexual assault.
In a condemnation note, the JSC stated that the atrocious act committed against the minor, an evil deed that steals a child’s innocence, is intolerable.
Stating that as society strives for peace and harmony, such barbaric acts disrupt it, the JSC urged law enforcement to punish the offenders severely and ensure appropriate consequences.
It also urged all right-thinking members of society to strongly condemn such acts and seek justice for the victim, and lauded organisations that have stood up against such acts.
