6000 internally displaced persons provided skill training, says Manipur Chief Minister

IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday said at the ongoing assembly session that more than 6000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been given skill development training under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), out of which 91 of them have been employed outside the state.

Stating that all the deputy commissioners have been asked to compensate INR 30,000 to the families of deceased internally displaced persons staying at relief camps for performing of the final rituals, he said those who have not yet received the said amount can claim from their concerned deputy commissioners.

The CM was responding to a calling attention motion moved by Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh of Sugnu assembly constituency in the ongoing budget session, regarding the report of denial to bear the expenses of cremation of a deceased inmate of relief camp by the district administration.

He said that the financial aid was compensated with due process of the government and that the request for financial aid was intimated to district administration after the completion of cremation.

He also said that medical teams will be visiting the relief camps twice a week and provide medicines free of cost. If specific medicines are required that are not available with the health team, the department procures them upon receiving recommendations from the respective deputy commissioners, he added while citing a case wherein medicine worth INR 1.6 lakh was purchased for a relief camp in Thangmeiband assembly constituency.

Replying to another question, also raised by MLA K Ranjit Singh, the CM told the House that there are 59,564 internally displaced persons from both communities at present and a total of 11,133 houses were burnt during the violence.

He also mentioned that the State Cabinet has approved to sanction INR 1 lakh each on instalment basis to the families whose houses have been burnt down due to the crisis. So far, the first instalment of INR 25,000 each has been sanctioned to 2792 households through the respective deputy commissioners.

It may be mentioned that Manipur has been witnessing ethnic crisis since May 3 last year, claiming 226 lives so far and displacing thousands of people.
