Manipur Petroleum Transporters call off strike
IMPHAL — The core committee of the Consortium of Manipur Petroleum Products Transporter Fraternity, Retail outlets dealers, LPG distributors and Drivers Association informed that the strike called by Manipur Petroleum Transporters has been called off from today.
According to a press release issued on Monday, petrol and diesel supply at Malom depot and LPG supply at Sekmai bottling plant too have resume, while the bridging of Petroleum Products by Transporters on Imphal-Jiribam National Highway-37 will resume from August 6 onwards.
However, it said that the core committee will observe the progress on a daily basis, besides reviewing the development on August 17. In case of any failure or not adhering to the agreed terms or found unsatisfactory at any given point of time, the transporters will take their own action like resumption of the strike, it added.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the state government and the core committee of the Consortium in this regard on Sunday.
It may be mentioned that the Consortium of Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Fraternity, which is the apex body of IOCL, BPCL, HPCL and Nayara Energy Transporters, had launched a cease work strike from August 1 in connection with high extortion and collection of illegal taxes by armed miscreants along the national highways.
Highlighting difficulties and threats they have been facing on Imphal-Jiribam highway while transporting fuel from outside the state, the consortium had on July 12 written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide adequate security in order to stop extortion on the highway or provide an alternative arrangement.
