DIMAPUR — To empower and inspire the youth of Dhansiripar area, a youth fair was held in Dhansiripar under Chümoukedima district on Saturday on the theme “Inspiring mind, shaping tomorrow.”

The youth fair was organised by Can Youth, in collaboration with Dhansiripar Students’ Union (DSU) and Dhansiripar Youth Organisation (DYO) in association with Hazadisa Students’ Union (HSU) and Doyapur Students’ Union (DSU).

Speaking at the program, Alongse Sangtam, joint director of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship department, highlighted about the employment scenario in the state. Reminding that the only way to get government job opportunity in the state is through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) and Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), he called upon the youth to work hard.

To those who are not dedicated and hardworking, he advised them to forgo government job and instead focus on private sector, companies, farming, entrepreneurship and others.

While observing that most of the vendors, electricians, mason and labourers in Dimapur are non-Nagas, he stated that the problem of unemployment would be solved to a large extent only if the Naga youth start to take on those jobs for their livelihood. He, therefore, asked the youth to approach the department if they are interested in any kinds of trainings provided by the department.

Since the Dhansiripar area has large arable land, he advised the youth to focus on fishery, plantation and other agricultural activities for their sustenance.

Jenpu Rongmei, founder and chief functionary of Can Youth, shared that during their assessment, the unemployment and drop-out rate was high in the area. He informed that the youth fair was organised basing on their assessment.

He further advised the parents to let their children decide for themselves on what they want to do in life.

Yutsula T Sangtam, project officer of Credit Outreach and Facilitation Unit (COFU), Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), also highlighted on the various schemes initiated by the government available in the state.

The keynote address was delivered by Nuyi Nyekha, senior project manager of Can Youth.

An interview and career counseling was also held during the youth fair.
