MMC councillors from Sungratsu felicitated

MOKOKCHUNG — The Sungratsu Senso Senden Mokokchung felicitated four of its citizens who emerged victorious in the recent ULB election for the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) at the Majakong Ward Community Hall on Tuesday.

In the election, six citizens contested, of whom four candidates—three women and one man—won from their respective wards. The elected MMC councillors from Sungratsu are Bendangkumba Aier (NDPP) for Majakong Ward, Maongtula Longchar (NDPP) for Alempang, Yongkongsang R (Congress) for Artang, and N Imtimenla Ao (independent) for Sungkomen.

Speaking on the occasion, M Taka Longchar, chairman of Sungratsu Village Council, asserted that while it is important to celebrate, they should not celebrate too much, as there is a significant task and responsibility ahead to fulfil for their respective wards and town during their five-year tenure.

Lemasashi Ozukum, president of the All Ward Union Mokokchung, advised them to respect the people’s mandates and to remain focused on the needs of their constituents while discharging their duties and responsibilities as councillors.

He further mentioned that with the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, they might encounter conflicts with landowners relating to certain provisions. He recommended seeking advice from elders and experts when implementing those provisions.

On behalf of the elected councillors, Bendangkumba Aier expressed their deep appreciation to the citizens of Sungratsu for their moral and physical support during the tense election period. He acknowledged their help in reaching their goal and appealed to the citizens for continued support in their future endeavours.
